Parenting Techniques

As a teacher and clinician, Duane LaGuire-Quinn, LMSW, ACSW has often worked with parents who have felt overwhelmed; many of these parents have attempted to implement a variety of parenting techniques but have not found success. Duane helps parents to build on their experiences and strengths from those failed attempts to reduce the feelings of hopelessness and helplessness. The key elements include consistency and remaining calm (composure), both of which can be difficult during stressful parenting situations. At FBHS Duane takes the child’s age into consideration, the presenting concerns, and the family dynamics in order to collaboratively develop a tailor-made treatment plan. Education, psycho-education, counseling, and therapy are integrated in treatment following special considerations for the child, as well as exploring and practicing of parenting techniques. Duane believes that working with the child alone, the caregivers alone, and the family together are all necessary parts of the successful treatment plan.
